Lake Lure part 5
Hiking family

The newest addition to the lake at Riverbend is this deck. We all had fun with it and decided to take some pics. This is all 4 of us (Blair is blocking all of us-jeez Blair-why do you have to be so big?) :)
This is us jumping off. This pic was hilarious. I of course didn't get the memo that we were to look up. I honestly was just worried about me getting in the water safely with the swimsuit still on. Oh well...a pic for a lifetime.
Bales and I...at the end of the day. Can you tell Bales is ready to go?

Lake Lure part 4
Next to swimming in the lake, we went hiking everyday. We borrowed a backpack carrier for Bailey from our friends and she loved it. Several times she fell asleep.......other times she sung and sung and sung to all the trees. We all came home probably a little fitter then we left, which is nice since we were "on vacation"!

This is one of our favorite cabin's in Riverbend and........
This is the view from that cabin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so jealous. Breathtakingly beautiful.
This lake is actually Lake Lure. For those of you who do not know, Dirty Dancing was filmed here! Remember all those "lake scenes?" Yep-here!

Here are pics of one of our favorite things to do when we are at the cabin. The subdivision we stay at is called Riverbend and it has it's own lake. It is wonderful to swim, canoe and dive in to! We enjoyed acting like 10 year old's again and bringing Bailey here for the first time.

The lake at Riverbend. Pretty awesome, huh!
Daddy and Bailey..playing and uh.....eating? sand.
Me, Blair, Bales and Uncle Johnny. Bales loves her ladybug floaty. Mom loves it because of the "shade" it provides. No more fitting the hat.

Pool time with Olivia.
A couple of weeks ago, my friend Sandy and I wanted to go to the pool with our girls. We started at the Officer's Pool and were informed it was closed due to someone losing their lunch in the pool. We then went to the indoor pool on base, and it was closed due to the weather. Yes, I did say the weather. Do not ask me.......I am very confused as well. It wasn't even raining! So, at long last, we decided to go back to my house and have fun in the little pool. Thanks Sandy and Olivia for a great afternoon.

Allergy Testing- Results.
For those of you who know Bailey, you know her struggle with "food allergies". From the first week of life, we knew something wasn't right. She had horrible rashes, mucous poo, silent (painful) reflux, night-waking (every hour at times), and fussiness 24/7. This led me to start eliminating food from my diet while breastfeeding her. While she improved with severe elimination of all highly allergenic foods (Soy, Milk, Wheat, Fish, Shellfish, Egg, Peanut, Tree Nut) along with beef, pork, tomato, beans; she still was reacting to something in my diet. This led us to a formula called Elecare. It is a prescription formula that has no milk or milk derivitives in it. We started this at 6 months of age and within a week or so we had a new child! After a month of that, the doctor deemed it important to start food trials. Since then, we have had a rough go of it. While only two foods have had a really bad reaction (rice and turkey, YES, RICE!!!), which included vomiting, diarrhea and rash; other foods she has not tolerated well either. Sweet Potato, carrots, prunes, apples, apricots, bananas have all made her reflux worse and made her very fussy. From about 15minutes after she eats to about 24 hours later she seems to have a lot of belly pain. We weren't sure if these were food allergies, intolerances or what. So, this led us to go to an allergist to figure it all out. On Tuesday, Bailey got tested (skin-pricked) for the most common allergens. The only one that was VERY POSITIVE, was Egg. Now, the skin-prick testing only tests for Ig-E mediated allergens. There are several other "types" of allergies that we can not test for, especially food allergies. However, it was very nice to know that she is highly allergic to egg. We have not tried that yet and will wait to try this under a doctor's supervision and recommendation.
While these results overall were assuring, it still leads us to why she doesn't tolerate *most* food. The doctor just recommended to keep trying foods slowly and seemed to think it may be a food protein enterocolitis syndrome. Hopefully she will outgrown these sensitivities within the next year. For now, we are doing well on Elecare and the couple of foods she *can tolerate*. For those interested in more info, here is a GREAT website that I already belonged to, but even the doctor sent me here for more info on what to do with Bales. http://www.kidswithfoodallergies.org/

My wild man boyfriend- Jace :)
Jace came over to visit for awhile on Monday. For part of the time he was here, Bales was asleep. It was nice to be able to play "man defense". After Bales woke up it was definetly "zone defense" which most of you athletic types know takes more critical thinking and awareness! We had a blast and enjoyed the time.
Jace "Wild Man"- Seriously, isn't he a cutie?
Off with Pooh's Head!
Bales coming to play with Jace. Last time he visited, Bailey could't crawl or cruise very well. 2 weeks later and Bailey has caught up to Mr. Jace.
They both loved to play the piano together.
Here is a video hightlighting the differences between girls and boys. Bailey is lightly hitting the keys, most often with her pointer finger (she does everything with her two pointy fingers-very dainty like). Jace is slamming the keys with is whole hand. He eventually takes over the composition...and Bailey is happy to just go play somewhere else :).

Curious Cat
Bailey is now very mobile and her curiosity has soared. She is now getting into EVERYTHING :). She is so fun at this age. She still loves her "non-toy" toys the best as you will see. Magazines, Dvd's and her new shoes are some of her favorites!
I found Bales a little too late....she loves to rip and eat paper.
Do you like the Gilmore Girls Bailey?
Oh wow! New Shoes!
Yummy Mommy. They look and TASTE good.

Wooden leg Bales
This is a video of Bales crawling. She seems to keep her right leg "straight" and swing it over and then pull her left leg in. Very odd, but surprisingly effective. She has really learned how to transition for crawling, to standing, to sitting, to lying flat and etc. Overall, we are all much happier :). No more falling down and screaming because she can't figure out how to sit up. It has brought some new challenges. Even with vaccuming daily, she still finds stuff on the floor that she eats.
best video ever
I know I have mentioned this video before in a post, but it is so good it bears repeating. This video not only teaches your child about numbers, shapes and colors, it also teaches all the great GATOR traditions. We learn about Albert and Alberta, UF marching band, football players, cheerleaders, Mr. Two-bits, and numerous other "gator only" things. I can pop this video in when Bailey is super fussy and ta-da....rapture capture. She LOVES it. We have tried the baby einstein videos, but this is by far her favorite. Don't worry, we only play it a couple of times a month. If you are a Gator fan, BUY THIS for your baby!

Talking Bales
Bailey's second favorite activity is TALKING!! It is non-stop. She has different voices for us, toys, and her little kitty, Snickers. Here is a video of her jibber jabber.
Getting into trouble already
Now that Bailey is mobile, she has started to get into trouble. She found the plastic container cabinet! Which brings me to another point. Why do I spend money on toys? I try and buy them used when I do purchase them, but really...she prefers stuff lying around the house. Her favorites: Junk mail, little bits of leaves on the floor, the laptop, the remote, the phone, our ottoman (her ultimate favorite "pull-up" toy), plastic hangers, and her baby spoons. She would prefer to play with all of these over her "toys"!

Bailey is CRAWLING!!!!
Bailey started crawling last week. She took her first crawl on Daddy's Birthday, June 24th! Unfortunately, he was gone several days last week for training and wasn't able to see her crawl until the 26th. I was able to call him (and several family members) screaming "She is crawling, she is crawling!" This is a huge milestone for any family, I am sure. However, when your daughter is moved from the infant room to the crawling room at church, not because she is crawling, but because she is "bored with the toys" this is especially rewarding! She Hates crawling as you can see below. It has gotten much better over the past week though. She is still not a huge fan, but will crawl if she can not cruise or walk there (she LOVES to pull up and cruise around-or better yet come to mom and grab her hand to help walk Bailey where she wants to go!). I think walking will be coming soon. I think what finally enticed her to take those first crawl moves is her time in the nursery seeing all the other babies crawl, and spending 15hours last week with the older babies why I worked at VBS. I love staying at home and know that she receives many benefits (IE-we are both sick right now from her being in the nursery), but one advantage of day care is the ability to learn from older kiddos. Hopefully, now that she is a little older we can start going to more playgroups (they always seem to fall from 9-11am right in the middle of her nap time :().
Enjoy the video-classic Bales! Crawling is HARD work for the little ones.

Jace and Bailey have a sleepover!
Jace thought the octopus tasted yummy
Bailey and Jace playing well together
Jace showing Bailey how to say HI!
WILD MAN. All boy. He loved the truck.
Good job boys and girls! They enjoyed showing eachother how they pull up on things. Jace is a proficient crawler and Bailey still hasn't gotten that memo yet. I think they are the cutest pair!

We kept Jace Saturday night so his parents could spend some time together. I love to spend time with Jace. It is SOOO apparent the differences between boys and girls when you have two the same age for any length of time. I laughed the whole night, well...most of the night :). There were those moments when both of them needed something and I was like, how do I do this? This gave me a glimmer of what life would be like with 2 children! I think I might wait a little longer for that adventure :)

Bailey's 9 Month Physical
Today was Bailey's 9 mo well child check. It ended up taking 2 1/2 hours (ughhhh- doctor's offices!), but we finally got what we needed. Here are the vital statistics: Ht 27.5in (50%), Wt 20lb 10oz (75%), Head 46.1cm (95%+). So, yes...she does have a BIG head ;). The doctor said she is doing well developmentally....Bailey walked a little for her to show how big she is getting. We received a referral to a Peds Allergist for official food allergy testing and education for mommy. She had not had a baby as allergic as Bailey before. Bailey received one shot and we were finally on our way. All the nurses of course loved her and kept commenting on her hair. She is so cute- she enjoyed playing with the big kids in the waiting room.
Hope everyone has a great weekend. I know I have lots to do on my to do list :).
